From the Sunday Times / Behaviour & Attitudes Poll for June 2020
While the poll was being conducted, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party were negotiating a programme for Government, which if successful, will result in either Micheál Martin or Leo Varadkar becoming Taoiseach in a coalition administration.
Within this context, respondents were asked whether they would prefer to see Micheál Martin or Leo Varadkar as the next Taoiseach. In response, almost half of all Irish adults indicated they would prefer to see Varadkar as the next Taoiseach, with less than one in five opting for Micheál Martin. Support for Leo Varadkar as Taoiseach is highest amongst females, those aged 18 to 34 years, and from an ABC1 white collar and professional working socio-economic background.
