It is safe to say that the Government’s first few weeks in office have been eventful, particularly for Fianna Fáil. The turbulence began with a period of unseemly in-fighting within Fianna Fáil related to ministerial appointments. The fact that these spats were conducted across the airwaves did not reflect well on Fianna Fáil, at a time when the public is seeking selfless leadership during the on-going pandemic crisis.
Within days of these appointments, news of newly appointed Minister for Agriculture Barry Cowen’s historical drink driving ban emerged, culminating in his being sacked by Taoiseach, Micheál Martin.
