Sunday Times / Behaviour & Attitudes Opinion Poll July 2017
No Varadkar Bounce for FG
A full one-third of all Irish voters registered a ‘no opinion’ response when asked how satisfied they were with Mr. Varadkar as Taoiseach, with just 25% dissatisfied. A significant proportion of the electorate is therefore prepared to wait a while longer until the new Taoiseach has a chance to prove himself, and this in itself is a positive result for Varadkar at this early stage.
Support for Fine Gael in the final three opinion polls of Enda Kenny’s stewardship was rock solid at between 28% and 29%. Fine Gael will, nevertheless be disappointed that in its first B&A opinion poll since the leadership election its party support has remained flat compared to last month’s poll, at 29%. The party therefore remains neck and neck with Fianna Fáil, which is the largest opposition party by quite some margin.
