2021 -Gráinne Cuffe

Grainne Cuffe graduated from Fine Art at the Institute of Design & Technology Dun Laoghaire in 1979 and continued her formal education in lithography and etching through the Tamarind Institute Master Printer Program and Post-Graduate Printmaking at Central Saint Martins in London. Gráinne exhibits regularly at Graphic Studio Gallery – including several solo works – and her prints have appeared in the Bankside Gallery, London, RUA, RHA and RA. Her work also features in the collections of the National Gallery, Ireland, the Arts Council, Ireland, the Chester Beatty Library, Ireland, the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, UK, and the Snite Museum of Art, USA. The recipient of many awards, Gráinne has served on the Board of the Graphic Studio Dublin 2016 – 2019 and the Irish Fullright Alumni 2014 – 2019

Describing her work as ‘loosely botanical’ Gráinne’s three powerful etchings for B&A – ‘Petal Sweep’, ‘Petals Papillon’ and ‘Petal Billow’ – investigate the hidden drama and exuberance of a sweet pea flower in blossom. By highlighting the many subtle and constrasting aspects of its sensuous curves and folds, each print bears witness to the variety, depth and fragility of the flower’s intense chromatic ‘inscape’.
